ArcGIS Enterprise

ArcGIS Enterprise is the foundational software system for building Web GIS: mapping, analysis and data management on the Web, on any device.

ArcGIS Enterprise is the foundational software system for building Web GIS systems. It enhances and extends the capabilities of mapping and visualizing, analyzing and managing data on the Web, and is the backbone for running Esri-ready applications as well as GIS applications that users develop themselves. ArcGIS Enterprise is tightly integrated with ArcGIS Desktop and ArcGIS Pro and connects to ArcGIS Online to share GIS content between systems.

Collaboration and flexibility are at the heart of ArcGIS Enterprise, allowing users to organize and share GIS data, information and applications on any device, anywhere, anytime.

ArcGIS Enterprise gives administrators complete control over the deployment and operation of a Web GIS. It can run on Microsoft Windows, Linux and Kubernetes, on a single server or in a large multi-server system:

  • Public cloud infrastructure
  • Private cloud infrastructure
  • On-premises infrastructure using physical or virtualized hardware

Components of ArcGIS Enterprise

ArcGIS Enterprise supports needs such as real-time data tracking, big data analysis, raster image analysis, image service storage and data processing workflows. It can be deployed in connected or non-Internet environments and configured to prevent data loss and downtime in emergencies.

Four components work together to provide web mapping, remote sensing image analysis, real-time data processing and batch data analysis:

  • ArcGIS Server supports mapping and analysis in GIS applications. It includes several server products with specialized roles that can scale as traffic grows: ArcGIS GIS Server, ArcGIS Image Server, ArcGIS GeoEvent Server, ArcGIS GeoAnalytics Server, ArcGIS Notebook Server and ArcGIS Workflow Manager Server.
  • ArcGIS Enterprise portal is a centralized GIS portal where users create, share and manage maps, applications and spatial data.
  • ArcGIS Data Store provides fast data storage for the server.
  • ArcGIS Web Adaptor integrates ArcGIS Server and the portal with web servers and the organization’s existing security infrastructure.

A basic ArcGIS Enterprise system is a minimal setup containing all four components. After installation it can be used as is, or configured to enable additional functions.

Licensing

ArcGIS Enterprise is licensed by number of users and by system capacity. Users are granted permissions by user type, have secure access to information, and can create GIS assets. ArcGIS Server roles are licensed individually, depending on the functions an organization wants to deploy.
